Co-operative Education

Athens has a long tradition of using co-op placements to extend student learning to the real world, and to connect their education with the community around them. The co-op classes may be 1, 2 or 4 credits in length. The placements are totally dependent on the student's interests. Athens always has extremely excellent candidates for co-op. Employers are always willing to take an Athen's Student, as there is a long history of success between our placement businesses and our students. In fact, many students end up with part time work form their co-op placement. This has happened at Blanchard's Garage, ACE Hardware, Dixie Electric, and Pineview Public School to name only a few.

What are some examples of placements?

Trades - mechanics, electrician, welding, construction, heavy equipment
Health Areas - Medical Assistants, Nursing, Speech Therapist, Chiropractor, Physiotherapy, Activation Department at Mapleview
Other - Vet tech areas, curator at museums, teaching in either the high school or elementary school, working at a landscaper firm.
